STOP-THE-PAPER UNIT
This unit plan covers the following Digital Technologies content descriptors:
Digital Technologies Knowledge and Understanding
Within this unit students critically analyse and creatively determine more sustainable ways of living. General capabilities: Numeracy Students have the opportunity to transfer their mathematical knowledge and skills to contexts outside the mathematics classroom when they represent data in different forms. |
This unit plan is called ‘Stop-the-paper’ and teaches the cross-curricular priority of sustainability by leading students to critically analyse existing information systems in order to provide a sustainable solution. This unit will attempt to engage the students in an activity that asks them to come up with a solution to reduce the amount of paper used within the school by using existing information systems.
At the beginning of the unit the students will be asked to record how many times, in one week, they personally use paper within the classroom and around the school. The students must then collate the information they have gathered and display them digitally. Using the information they have gathered the students must attempt to find a sustainable solution that reduces the amount of paper used in their school using existing information systems. As the students collaborate they will be completing the content descriptors by creating sustainable solutions to meet the current and future community needs.
